Trend Predictions for Spring/Summer 2022 at Top Drawer Spring

Posted on

Last week I visited Top Drawer Spring at Olympia, London.

Top Drawer is a trade only event, where buyers from small independents to large retailers head to stock their stores post Christmas and for the year ahead. Wholesalers, manufacturers and small scale designers exhibit a combination of gifts, stationery, interior accessories and fashion accessories hoping to get their wares under the noses of the big names in retail.

It is also a good place to go to spot trends for the season ahead.  These had been neatly pulled together into four themes by trend forecasting agency, The Better Trends Co and displayed in a central feature at the show.  In a spring and summer where covid rules and regulations will be lifted and where we will need to learn how to live freely again, they predict the following:

Positive reinforcement

A playful, positive trend inspired by the need for more fun and joy. Think simplistic graphics with lime, clear brights and accents of cobalt blue and orange.

 Earthen artistry

A trend inspired by the need to re-engage with nature. Think natural materials, traditional crafts and leaf prints with a colour palette of forest green, brown and olive contrasted with clear blues and amber.

The Better Trends Co
Slow rituals
Inspired by post-covid, anxiety reducing rituals.  Picture natural stones, ceramics and glass combined with a calming colour range of meditative blue and deep tan.

New heirlooms
Inspired by eco focused values and circular design. Re-creating cherished items for the future. A colour palette of warm peach, orange and sage anchored with dust blue and sage green apply.

The next edition of Top Drawer will take place in Olympia, London from 11 - 13 September. Entry is trade only or with a press pass.
