Christmas Exhibition at London Glassblowing
Posted on
Tuesday, I headed to Bermondsey Street for a fascinating visit to London Glassblowing to see their Christmas exhibition. London Glassblowing, founded by glass artist, Peter Layton in 1976 is both an exhibition space as well as a working studio for glass artists.
The studio glass movement emerged in 1960s America and was brought to the UK by Peter Layton who is often described as the father of studio glass in the UK.
If you have never thought of buying glass art, then do consider it. A beautiful piece of glass art, lit well and chosen to match an interior makes a fabulously striking display piece. And if you can, pay a visit to London Glassblowing. You can watch the highly skilled glass artists at work and like a child in a sugary bon bon store, you will be mesmerised by the swirling, colourful, jewel like quality of work on display.
Glass art is priced from £190 up to thousands of pounds depending on the size, skill and work involved. But, at the Christmas exhibition you can grab yourself a bargain. There is a clearance table of pieces that are not necessarily faulty but have been put on sale to create shelf space.
You can also buy Peter Layton's colourful glass Christmas baubles from £90 - timeless baubles that will playfully reflect the little lights on your tree. And at the end of Christmas will be carefully packed away in the boxes they came in and brought out again year after year.
